Julie McGregor’s interest in jazz
started at a very young age when listening to her father’s old
jazz 78’s
collection. It was the influence of those old artists that mostly influenced
her love of jazz and blues music.
Julie
works with many great jazz musicians such as Norman Amadio, Mark Kieswetter, Bernie Senensky, Brian
Dickinson, Paul Wiggins, Richard Underhill, George Koller, Artie Roth, Cam Jobson, Glenn Anderson and Norman Marshall Villeneuve. Julie worked often with the late and fondly remembered clarinet/flute and sax player; Bill Mulhul.
Julie was nominated for Best Jazz for the New Music Awards for 2011 and won the Best Jazz Vocalist at the Burlington Jazz Festival. At the Art of Jazz Festival in the Distillery, she performed in the Barry Harris Choir with guest soloist Kevin Mahogony. In 2006, Julie was on stage with the Real Divas at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival in Nathan Phillips Square. She performs at various Jazz and Blues Festivals.
The Love Potion Jazz Band is a feel-good jazz and blues band that connects with audiences. These seasoned musicians share a love of music and fun on stage. Performing in all kinds of venues, concerts and clubs, this unique act covers a wide cross-section of great music and is entertaining to every kind of music lover. LOVE POTION performs at jazz and blues venues such as the very popular Reservoir Lounge, Emmet Ray, Zemra, the Commensal, Annex Live, and at Festivals and Events.

Norman Amadio - Piano
Norman Amadio was the first Canadian to play Birdland in New York City in the 1950's. Birdland at the time, was considered the jazz corner of the world and Norman was in very good company with performers such as Chet Baker, Errol Garner, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton and Sarah Vaughn. He played opposite Duke Ellington.
Norman Amadio worked with about ninety percent of the greatest artists in jazz who ever lived including Miles Davis, Rosemary Clooney, Stan Getz, Carmen McRae, Coleman Hawkins, Flip Phillips, Sonny Stitt, Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Irene Krall, Julie London, Dinah Washington, Ben Webster, Zoot Simms, Anita O'day, Mel Torme, Annie Ross, Jon Hendricks, and Lester Young. Norman worked for over 40 years for the CBC on various Television shows and was the musical director on many others.

"Caught
jazz vocalist Julie McGregor’s
act on St. Clair Avenue West in Toronto.
I have listened to Julie perform
over the last decade and her voice has matured and mellowed into a
very real and personal sound. Her phrasing
in her up-tempo version of ‘Speak Low’ was impeccable. Standards
like ‘End of a Love Affair’ and ‘You
Don’t Know What Love Is’ had distinctive styling. And, for
a steamy, humid Friday night, Dave’s was packed and most people
stayed for the entire evening. Julie, hat on backwards and perched on
a high stool, ended the night with a memorable rendition of ‘Good-Bye
Pork Pie Hat’ by Charlie Mingus. The crowd loved it.
Julie McGregor is definitely a jazz vocalist to watch."
Gayle Winship
"I've had the fortunate opportunity to hear Julie sing with the great piano accompaniment of Norm Amadio. How wonderful to sit back and hear old and new jazz classics rendered with such feeling. I'd recommend anyone who appreciates good music, good jazz in a comfortable environment, to check them out."
Jerry Silverberg, The Cafe Society.
“ The entertainment was outstanding (great talent!) Will definitely attend again!! ”
Beth, Member of the Jazz Meet Up Toronto Group
